Privacy Policy

This page explains how www.cleanerscotland.org uses any information you give to us, and the ways in which we protect your privacy.

The Data Protection Act
Under the Data Protection Act 1998, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. We use leading technologies to safeguard your data, and keep strict security standards to prevent any unauthorised access to it. We do not pass on your details to any third party or government department unless you give us permission to do so.

What information do we collect?

If you decide to complete the Contact us form, the information we collect is: your name, email address and question or message to us. We collect two kinds of information from visitors to this site: Personal details in connection with Contact us form, and site usage information from session cookies and log files.

Personal details for Contact us form
If you complete the Contact us form, the information we collect is your name, email address and question or message you have provided. This information is stored to allow us to understand who is interested in taking action to create a greener Scotland and to contact you in future with other information you might find useful, including offers from partner organisations.

We partner with third parties to provide email updates. When you sign up for these particular services, we share names and contact information with the third party service providers solely for the purposes of providing these services and these companies may be based outside the EU.

A copy of this information is kept securely by the Scottish Government and our technology suppliers, and will be held until such time you inform the Scottish Government otherwise by emailing sustainable.development@scotland.gsi.gov.uk. This information is also stored on back-up tapes to avoid loss of data. If you wish to unsubscribe from emails, every email has an unsubscribe link which you can use to unsubscribe from all future emails.

Site usage information - log files

Log files allow us to record visitors' use of the site. Whitespace (the technology provider for the website) puts together log file information from all our visitors, which we use to inform changes to the layout of the site and to the information on it, based on the way that visitors move around it. Log files do not contain any personal information.

Changes to this privacy policy
If this privacy policy changes in any way, we will place an updated version on this page. Regularly reviewing this page ensures you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances, if any, we will share it with other parties.
