What information do we collect?

We collect two kinds of information from visitors to this site: Personal details in connection with Contact us form, and site usage information from session cookies and log files.

If you complete the Contact us form, the information we collect is your name, email address and question or message you have provided. This information is stored to allow us to understand who is interested in taking action to create a greener Scotland and to contact you in future with other information you might find useful, including offers from partner organisations.

We partner with third parties to provide email updates. When you sign up for these particular services, we share names and contact information with the third party service providers solely for the purposes of providing these services and these companies may be based outside the EU.

A copy of this information is kept securely by the Scottish Government and our technology suppliers, and will be held until such time you inform the Scottish Government otherwise by emailing This information is also stored on back-up tapes to avoid loss of data. If you wish to unsubscribe from emails, every email has an unsubscribe link which you can use to unsubscribe from all future emails.

Site usage information - log files

Log files allow us to record visitors' use of the site. Whitespace (the technology provider for the website) puts together log file information from all our visitors, which we use to inform changes to the layout of the site and to the information on it, based on the way that visitors move around it. Log files do not contain any personal information.

Google Analytics

The Google Analytics features that you've implemented based on Display Advertising (e.g. Remarketing, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, the DoubleClick Campaign Manager integration or Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting).
Using the Ads Settings, visitors can opt out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customise Google Display Network ads.
